What Coaching is – and what not.

I am often asked what coaching actually is and what it is good for. There are many different views and approaches, so I would like to introduce you to my perspective of professional coaching.

Life can be quite challenging. We can’t do anything about that. But we can work on dealing with the ups and downs. And we can identify what is really important for you and what you can do to create the life you want to live.

You aren’t satisfied with your current situation and don’t really know why? Do you want to change something, but don’t know exactly what and how? Are you wondering what you really want in life – right now, later on, in the long term? You achieved what you wanted, but still are not happy though? Do you think there must be more to life? You feel overwhelmed by all the possibilities that promise to improve your well-being or to optimise your life? Are you torn between or stuck and think you can’t solve it?

Goodism Coaching helps you to find answers to your questions – all by yourself.

Coaching is all about you. You as a person. A person who has different roles in life, such as being a friend, a partner, a mother or father, an employee, an entrepreneur. And also a person being a part of the world around you, e.g. a company, your family, or society. But most importantly: It is about being you.

Coaching is a journey to yourself. An adventure with different sceneries, various perspectives and mind-blowing views. There might be some roadworks from time to time as well. You are in the driver’s seat though. You decide where to go and where to make a stop. Either way, it can be a life-changing experience.

Coaching allows time for yourself. It’s a chance to reflect and clarify in order to ponder on the most important questions of life. It helps to define concrete problems as well as crack unconscious and subconscious patterns, thought loops and dogmas. It uncovers personal values and needs and activates the client’s own problem-solving skills, which creates new possible actions and goals.

Coaching can help to improve your life – by taking responsibility, living consciously, redressing the balance and making your life worthwhile. This is where happiness starts.

Changing your life for the better. This is the very basis of Goodism Coaching.

Coaching is a form of personality development in which the coach encourages the client’s cognitive process and his growth, thereby providing help for self-help.

What Coaching is not

Each and everyone of us experiences indecision, challenges and crises at times. Sometimes, it can help to find a sparring partner on eye-level in order to put your thoughts back in order.

However, Coaching is neither therapy, nor healing, counseling or training. It’s not about repairing what is broken. It’s about working with you as the person that you are. Coaching is future- and potential-oriented and focuses on solving a problem. Coaching can’t replace psychotherapy, but, by agreement, it can take place in addition to a psychological treatment.

Moreover, Coaching is not about judging or trying to teach you what’s right for you. It’s not about presenting you a solution or giving instructions. It’s more about guiding you to set and achieve your goals yourself. Because you are the expert of your life.

If desired or required, the coach can additionally integrate his expert knowledge in certain areas.
